Geronimo Road Rally
Georgetown
OVER
Sat Jun 16, 2018
This is the Saturday before Father’s Day and the 189th anniversary of the birth of the Mescalero-Chiricahua Apache medicine man and leader, Geronimo. Geronimo was active in the New Mexico – Arizona Indian wars from the 1850s until his third surrender in 1886. He survived several years of imprisonment in Florida before being put on a reservation at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He was allowed to visit the 1904 World’s Fair in St Louis and was in President Theodore Roosevelt’s inauguration parade in 1905. He died in 1909 from pneumonia after a horse riding accident, aged 80.
This Road Rally is not a timed event but a ride in the country to answer a series of questions about the route. Scoring will be based on your answers. There are several beautiful and scenic sites along the route but there is one gravel road. Each car must have two people who can read and one must have a valid driver’s license. The car must have a valid inspection sticker and current insurance. Both parents must sign a Minor’s Waiver but minors are welcomed and can function as either driver or navigator if qualified.
Start: Georgetown Republic Square at 11:00 AM
End: Louis Mueller Bar-B-Que in Taylor
