This famous Austin hot rod wagon is owned by Andy, a long time Austinite. This car used to be owned raced by Butch Lake and August "Hands" Hartkopf. It was one of two original Austin Speed Shop race cars known as "Hand's Hauler".

Andy purchased this hot rod in 1969 from David Bullet shortly after coming home from Vietnam. He said it used to be a panel wagon during its speed shop days, but it was later converted to glass. Before the speed shop got a hold of it, it was owned by Southwester Bell.

Things happened and the '55 went undriven for many years. In 2009, Andy decided it was time to get back in to the hobby and proceeded to restore the old wagon. He got the engine going and repainted the body to a color as close to the original of the "Hand's Hauler" as he could find. Andy's goal was to show it at the 2011 Lonestar Roundup. And he did!

We are grateful to Andy for keeping this historic hot rod and reintroducing it to a new generation of Austin hot rod enthusiasts!

There are many historic photos on the web of this hot rod. Below are a few resources to find more information.
