Austin Rock and Roll Car Museum

Austin Texas finally gets a classic car museum!

Sort of.

I say this because it's only open twice a month. But that's a start!

Austin, as far as I can recall, has not had a car museum since the late 1960s when Rod Kennedy opened the Texas Speed Museum. Rod Kennedy was very active in the automotive culture in Austin. He later moved on and founded the Kerrville Folk Festival.

The Austin Rock & Roll Car Museum is a non-profit entity. It opened its doors to the public sometime in July 2015.

The Austin Rock and Roll Car Museum has an eclectic collection of rare vehicles and one-of-a-kind art objects. The collection includes the original “Ghostbuster’s” Caddie as well as cars previously owned by John Lennon and President John F. Kennedy.

Hopefully, if people visit this Austin automotive attraction on a regular basis (please do show your support!), they will be inspired to keep it open at least six days a week. It's not like Austin is a tourist destination or anything /s. And there's that big race track out in East Austin. And of course Austin is home to one of the best annual rod and kustom car shows in the world.

So, hallelujah! Austin has a bona fide car museum! Make a note of the days that it is open and go pay them a visit. I'll see you there.

One more thing. Just a few miles south of Austin (San Marcos) is an outstanding automobile museum - Dick's Classic Garage. I highly recommend visiting. And it's open 7 days a week!
