Introducing MOTOR Austin BuZz

By: motoraustin 6/25/2010 8:00:00 AM

MOTOR Austin BuZz Logo

A few weeks ago we quietly added a new app called BuZz to MOTOR Austin. It seems to be working ok so it's time to call a bit more attention to it. Buzz is modeled after Twitter, which means it only allows for 140 characters of information in each message - just your basic short, sweet, to-the-point "what's up" information.

BuZz is available for anyone to read, however, to post, you must first create an account on MOTOR Austin (which is also in beta).

South Austin Speed Shop T-Shirt

By: motoraustin 1/17/2010 8:00:00 AM

south austin speed shop tee shirt

While we are on the subject of nostalgia, I ran across this t-shirt on ebay. It is a great artifact for the Austin Speed Shop chronicles, harkening to the time when Mercury Charlie worked out of the shop.

For reference, the current logo is the inset image at bottom right. Of course, things happen and Charlie now has his shop in north Austin. Anyway, the t-shirt now belongs to MOTOR Austin!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Kristin Gunn

From MOTOR Austin to You, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hopefully MOTOR Austin has been useful and somewhat entertaining for you. But if not feel free to let me know what can be improved. As for me, this past year I have met some cool and very talented people in the Austin hot rod scene. I have also attended some great events that I have never been to and actually got a few decent pictures. All in all, it's been a good year!

Special thanks to our supporters:

Kristin Gunn Sugarstar logo A very special thanks to Kristin Gunn for allowing MOTOR Austin to use a photo from one of her recent shoots. Kristin is a mom, a model, an artist, a computer geek, a multiple business owner, a Mac lover and a gun enthusiast. Her core business is Black Cat Tattoo Aftercare products that are developed right here in Austin and sold worldwide. But that's not all, Kristin has recently started a baking business called Sugarstar that specializes in 'uncommon creations', and indeed they are uncommonly cool! "We bake in our South Austin bakery and crank out some of the coolest cakes and cupcakes around. We design each cupcake to match your personality and theme of your event. We do cupcakes for large corporate events and festivals such as the Trail of Lights, Lonestar Round Up, ROT Rally, The Grind, Batfest etc." Love thy cupcake!

MOTOR Austin Forum Announcements

By: motoraustin 11/3/2009 5:04:00 PM

MOTOR Austin forums are here!

So, here's the challenge. I have decided to build my own forum software for a multitude of reasons I won't go in to.

The challenge is for me to build a message board in 20 hours. Of course, it will probably take me six weeks to get that many hours of coding in.
I will release a new update after each five hours of coding. BUT, it probably wont be usable until I expent the whole 20 hours! We'll see.

My inspiration comes from Twitter. Therefore, this will be a bare bones design.

1. Post a message!
2. Post a reply!
3. No user account required! woo hoo!
4. Old school emoticons like :-) and ;-) and :-o
5. No crappy space hogging post signatures!
6. No clicking next page...pages suk!
7. No rounded corners.
8. Bare bonez.

Now that's a hokey ass message board!
